Greetings from Taiwan!
This is my first time going to Taiwan, and it’s lived up to the high expectations I had-but even surpassed it in many unanticipated ways. I am shocked by a sense of unanticipated simplicity, I expected more of a hustling metropolitan throughout many parts of Taipei. But most surprising is my appreciation for what Taiwan is; I feel refreshed and peaceful. I put in my earphones. The lighthearted reggae or the occasional pop song that plays enhances the drive through the Taipei highways with its unexpectedly pleasant juxtaposition. When I close my eyes the colors still rush through my eyelids, like bits of construction paper melting in a puddle.
And then you get to parts of Taipei that are breathtakingly modern and enormous, like the area surrounding Taipei 101. Everything I could wish for in an Asian city can be located here. I spent a few good hours at a famous bookstore in the downtown, drawing in my travel diary. I’ve been splitting my time between journaling and blogging; as you can see, I’ve delegated the majority to journaling so far. I’m traveling through Taiwan with my family, so the plans are busier and I’m really tired at the end of the day. When I start to travel on my own, I give myself a lot more time to record, relax, and just develop a lifestyle in the city that I’m in. (Upcoming!)
There was a good mix of activities, including eating at the famous night markets, visiting historical shrines and landmarks, and even a trip to the hair salon with my sister! Call me crazy, but I’ve missed this hot and humid weather terribly. I’ve missed the constant city hum and the crowds of busy people. External frenzy gives me internal peace of mind.
A day and a half in Taipei, and my family and I went off to explore other parts. Doesn’t feel like even a fraction of the time I would like to spend exploring, but I know I’ll be back before I know it.
Updates to come soon on my travels to other parts of Taiwan! Beautiful views! Ally in nature! Keep your eyes out for all that jazz <3
