Wish everyone a great move into Autumn and Winter! This festival marks the changing of seasons, and celebrates the night when the moon is the roundest, largest, and brightest!
I ate mooncakes with my family as we do every year, and the sweetness was delicious! I love sweets. I think lotus mooncakes are my favorite ^^
Here is a photoshoot I did while in Shanghai. I had so much fun with these photos, although I was pretty uncomfortable with the outfit at first… (Not the style of the outfit, but the outfit itself!)
One of my best friends was in the photo room cheering me on, so it made the modeling process better. Chinese photographers in studios are so precise about how they want you to pose; it’s a lot less freestyle, and they will direct you much more. I thought that was pretty interesting.
The makeup artist and hairstylist did such a great job! I’m always amazed by people who are absolutely amazing with hair! Capturing the complex traditional Chinese hairstyle is very challenging and time consuming. We got along very well though, and all were joking around together by the end of the day. The ladies told me I had a face that was very suitable for traditional Chinese modeling or acting, and even said I looked like Zhou Hai Mei, one of my favorite traditional Chinese drama actresses!! I don’t particularly see it, but here are some photos of her. She acted in Legend of the Condor Heroes, which is one of my favorite Wuxia dramas. (I did a review/overcap of it wayyy back when on an old blog post! 🙂 Link here) I love finding dopplegangers for other people, but I never seem to agree with any of the dopplegangers that people suggest for me!
I’ve always been very fascinated with the complex and vast history of China. I was always told Chinese folklore growing up, and even now still daydream about things like the Moon Girl (Chang’E) up on the moon, crying down to the Earth below. Seeing the bright red and ornate oriental details gives me an immediate throwback to all my visits to places like the Forbidden Palace and the Imperial Gardens. The ancient culture of China is so unlike that of any Western culture, and I always find myself a little awed each time I think of the juxtaposition between the two.
Good night moon and good night readers!
