Dress Tmart / Tights Gap / Heels Forever 21
I was learning about the economics involved in historical pigeon-overcrowding in Trafalgar Square last Tuesday morning. Who would’ve expected that just a few days later, Trafalgar Square would become home to vigils for Charlie Hebdo, its contributers, and its editor. In retrospect, my in-class introduction to Trafalgar seems like an eerie foreshadowing, or at the very least a biting coincidence. Every person lives through a set of international tragedies in their time that shake the world. Through these events, we learn more than just how we should adjust systems. We learn (exemplified by citizens, cartoon artists, and Charlie’s supporters around the world) that people stand in solidarity.
I finished a great book called “Marrying Buddha” a few weeks back. It is by Wei Hui, one of my favorite contemporary Chinese authors. (I am holding it in a few of these pictures 🙂
I think one thing that I will always remember about this book is how Wei Hui describes the beauty in hearing silk rip. I don’t own any silk, other than my pillowcase, and I’m not about ready to rip that yet. However, hearing her describe the animal sensation and the hiss of silk as it tears intrigues me, hopefully one day my ears will experience that precious sound. She explores a lot of unique ideas and writes in a very fluid, engaging voice. This book also gave me a bit more insight on Buddism and meditation, topics that I have been fervently exploring in the past year because of my dad’s persistent study of Eastern religions.
I paired this houndstooth (a pattern I’ve been coveting for a while!) dress with a military green coat and a black beret. It was cold outside, but a pair of tights was enough to keep me warm. I hope you guys like the outfit! On a quick side note, I really loved the backdrop of these photos. It’s what I imagine street gates in Prague to look like.
These lovely photographs were taken by my friend Ed Tran a week or so ago. He always takes the best photos, be sure to visit his page for more beautiful photography.
Wishing everyone an optimistic and amazing weekend!
