I’m here to show you some behind the scenes of my 9-5 life as a Digital Marketing Manager. I live at home with my parents in the Bay Area, and recently turned 25. I’ve been out of college for about 3 years now.
It’s been a while since I’ve been active on my own platforms, because about six months ago I started working as a Digital Marketing Manager at a healthcare and technology company based in the Bay Area. I finally made some videos showing how my day-to-day looks like as a Digital Marketer. I made an office edition (I used to go into the office frequently), and a working from home edition (which is what most of my days look like now.)
Here’s some brief background to my role and how I got here:
What did I study in college to get my role in Digital Marketing?
I studied Economics at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). I was also interested in marketing, so I pursued a lot of marketing roles alongside more “traditional” business roles.
How did I get to my role in Digital Marketing after graduation?
I transitioned from an Associate role at AlphaSights in New York into marketing myself, because I decided after six months of working in a more corporate business setting that it wasn’t creative enough to be sustainable. Thus, I started interviewing for marketing roles before deciding to become self-employed to work on my own projects like Youtube and Babeboxers. About six months into that, I started getting a lot of marketing offers. I decided to take some interviews and ultimately ended up really liking CityHealth, although I hadn’t fully intended on becoming a full-time marketer.
What do I do as a Digital Marketing Manager?
I mainly help to design and execute various marketing initiatives around our COVID-19 testing and Urgent Care practices. I work with Design and Sales to create campaigns across email marketing, paid ads, and organic content. I also strategize marketing initiatives and plans for certain branches of the business. I run our Youtube channel and Instagram.
What do I enjoy about my role?
I love how talented, hard-working and adaptable my team is. It’s super important to be surrounded by a culture that you align well with, as it helps you become more motivated to the company’s vision and business goals. I also love the day-to-day variety of tasks that I do, and I’ve learned so much about marketing since I’ve started this role!
Now, let’s go to the videos!
First is a video of A Work Day in the Life of a Digital Marketing Manager Working from the Office. I love that my company uses the shared co-working space model. We chose Spaces as our co-working office, and I used to commute there about 2-3 times a week. Unfortunately, the office is a bit far from me. I used to commute about an hour each way, which is on the higher side of commute time for Bay Area professionals.
Next is a video of A Day in the Life of a Digital Marketing Manager Working from Home Edition. This is a WFH edition of my role. I set up a really simple no-frills home office in my second bedroom. Some days I get into a really productive flow working from home, and I wanted to share what one of those days would look like. I do enjoy the office setting better for work, but the time and energy saved from the commute is definitely a solid trade-off in terms of productivity.
